Volunteer Roles Available
1. Judges/Referees

You will be assigned as the judge/referee for various leagues. Training will be provided on 4 April at the competition hall.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Enforce Rules and Regulations: Ensure fair play by strictly adhering to the RoboCup rules and regulations specific to the challenge leagues.
  • Monitor Matches: Observe the matches closely to identify rule violations, fouls, or other infractions.
  • Make Decisions: Apply the rules consistently and make objective decisions regarding penalties, restarts, and other match-related issues.
  • Maintain Order: Ensure a safe and orderly environment for the competition, including managing player behaviour and crowd control.
  • Communicate Effectively: Clearly communicate decisions to teams, coaches, and spectators.
  • Scorekeeping: Accurately record match scores and other relevant data.
  • Technical Expertise: Possess a good understanding of the technical aspects of the competition, including robot design, programming, and strategies.
  • Conflict Resolution: Resolve disputes between teams or individuals in a fair and impartial manner.

Skill Sets Required to be a Judge/Referee

  • Knowledge of Challenge Rules: Thorough understanding of the RoboCup Singapore Open rules for individual leagues.
  • Technical Expertise: Familiarity with robotics, programming, and electronics.
  • Decision-Making Skills: Ability to make quick and accurate decisions under pressure.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with teams, coaches, and spectators.
  • Conflict Resolution Skills: Ability to resolve disputes fairly and effectively.
  • Experience in Robotics Competitions: Prior experience as a judge, referee, or competitor in RoboCup Singapore Open will be an add-on advantage.
2. Event Operation Team Member

You will be assigned as a member of event operation team.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Registration & Onboarding – Efficiently manage participant registration.  Guide participants and mentors through the registration process, answering any questions they may have.
  • Ushering & Logistics – Direct participants and mentors to designated areas within the competition venue. Manage the setup and breakdown of competition areas.
  • Mentor Oversight – Ensure that mentors do not interfere with student work during the competition period. Clearly communicate the boundaries of mentor involvement to all teams.
  • Communication & Coordination – Maintain clear communication with event organizers, judges, and other volunteers. Respond promptly to any issues or concerns that arise during the competition.
  • Safety & Security – Maintain a safe and secure environment for all participants, volunteers, and spectators. Address any safety concerns promptly.

Skill Sets Required:

  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills – Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with participants, mentors, judges, and other volunteers.
  • Problem-Solving Skills – Ability to identify and resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration – Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with other volunteers.
  • Enthusiasm & Positive Attitude – Maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude throughout the competition.
